Is Physical Education (PE) Universal?

Reinventing the Game

So recently, it has been crazy. The amount of administration to support teaching seems to have almost overwhelm actual direct teaching matters. It is almost seems that because there is less direct focus on teaching but nonetheless an incredible amount of very genuine and sincere efforts to prep for eventual teaching scenarios, we drop the metaphorical ball of ensuring learning takes place.

Substitute Plans for Elementary PE

Mindful PE

One of the things I worried about the most my first year of teaching PE was what to do if I needed a substitute. This was also in the time of COVID, when we were bouncing back and forth between in-person and hybrid, so even I wasn't sure what we would be doing one week to the next. No matter the climate, having solid substitute plans are an important part of getting set up for PE-- it will alleviate stress when you're probably already stressed enough with whatever is taking you from school that

Speaker: Jeremy Kellem, M.Ed. - Educational Strategist, Former Athlete, and CEO/Founder of W.I.N. (We Impact Now, LLC)

For many students, physical education is critical to becoming active and developing healthy routines. But how is this possible anymore with the repercussions of the pandemic? Years of COVID-19, social distancing, and virtual learning have all had a profound effect on students, which means educators need to adjust their classes accordingly. The good news is that P.E. can still play a vital role in helping students intellectually, emotionally, physically, and socially.

One of the first things I like to teach each year in PE are Sub Games. These are simple games with minimal equipment that work (with adjustments) K-5 as much as possible. I want students to know these games and play them with me, so that way if a sub presents it, they are aware of the rules, the equipment, and are ready to play. Many of my Sub Games are tag, relay, or whole-class challenges.
