In a significant stride toward elevating the voices of female athletes, Emily Kraus, MD , a physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R) sports medicine specialist at Stanford Medicine Children’s Health, co-authored a pivotal study aimed at shaping the future of sports science research. The study published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine , marks a transformative moment in understanding and addressing the unique needs of elite female athletes.
Physical education classes offer unique opportunities for students to explore fitness, health, and wellness. Many PE classes at the high school level look to take essential steps to transition students from school to an adult life that still values and prioritizes personal fitness and wellness. This past week was both a happy and a sad one for me. I just returned from New York, where my family and I hosted a celebration of life for my mom Kathleen, who passed away in April ( I wrote about her being my #1 fan here ). We held a public celebration of life in my hometown of Port Jefferson, NY, and then our family and cousins travelled to a shared family cabin in Connecticut to scatter her ashes next to her parents and celebrate with our own laughs, tears, and stories of her life.
