In 2023, I presented a session at the SHAPE America National Convention & Expo in Seattle with Jessica Adkins, the 2022 SHAPE America Western District High School Physical Education Teacher of the Year. When we teach students about death in health education, we can help them understand life, empathy, and resilience.

One important concern is the threat that vaping nicotine poses to middle and high school students. Vaping puts youth at risk for serious and lasting health consequences.

During and after the pandemic, it became even more apparent how important getting fresh air was for my students’ physical and, more important, emotional health. Heather teaches physical and health education for grades K-12 and is an adjunct instructor for the College in High School program through Minnesota State.
