In my award application, I wrote about introducing students to new lifetime activities in my, what I think is unique, advanced PE class. I’ll share some of those details in this article, and maybe you’ll find a few ideas for sharing lifetime sports with your students. This plays out in several ways.

Too often, when I introduce new sports or fitness activities, my predominantly African American students say, “That’s a white sport.” To teach my students about these activities, I often go beyond my school’s traditional PE space — and use the city as my physical education classroom.
